Happy birthday Johnny Appleseed!

Today we celebrated with an "Apple Tasting" party! Our wonderful parents sent in a plethora of goodies for the students to sample. We had apple pie, apple crisp, apple bread, apple cookies, apple butter, applesauce, and sour green apple Twizzlers. We also got to taste apple juice and apple cider. It was "applicious!" Please see our pictures below!

Arrrrgghhh, me hearties, it was Pirate Day at OES and there were loads of scallywags roaming our hallways! The first graders were entertained by "Captain Tollie Ross" who put on his land legs just to visit. He told some pirate jokes and read 2 books about pirates! Every first grader wanted to become a matey and search for treasure, but no one wanted to risk having to walk the plank! Many, many thanks to a fantastic pirate - Captain Ross- for his very special presentation!

This Tuesday we had a blast at Oakland Elementary when our first graders enjoyed "Goodies with Granparents." Everyone feasted on muffins, cinnamon rolls, juice, and coffee (none for the firsties!) while completing a "Grandparent Questionnaire." We found out that children used to get spanked at school if they misbehaved! My students were stunned!

We also discovered that a lot of the grandparents' favorite books are still popular today. Books like Green Eggs and Ham, Pokey Little Puppy, and Where the Wild Things Are were all mentioned. I hope you enjoy the pictures of these happy grandparents and grandchildren!

Today was this grandmother's birthday! What a great way to start her day!
